About SubConnects
SubConnects is a verified network for commercial roofing. Contractors use it to find and hire subcontractor crews and to post work for those crews to bid on. Crews use it to find that work. This page says plainly what we are, what we check, how we're paid, and how to reach us.
What SubConnects is
- A crew directory. Roofing sub crews keep a profile: the roofing systems they install, where they're based, and the ratings contractors have given them. A limited version of each verified crew's profile is public on our crew list. The full profile is for contractors we have verified, and contacting a crew needs an active membership as well.
- A job board for subcontract work. Contractors post jobs, and crews we have verified see them and send proposals. These postings are never public.
- A public roofing-jobs board, the other way round. Verified crews post openings for individual roofers on the roofing-jobs board, and roofers can apply without an account.
- The tools to work together. Messaging and file sharing between a contractor and a crew, and two-way reviews once a job is done: contractors rate crews, and crews rate contractors.
Who it's for
- Commercial roofing contractors who hire subcontractor crews and want to know a crew's insurance has been looked at by someone other than the crew.
- Roofing sub crews looking for subcontract work with commercial contractors, without paying for leads.
- Individual roofers looking for a place on a crew.
We take crews anywhere in the country. How many work where you do is something the crew list shows better than we can tell you.
How verification works
Nothing on SubConnects verifies itself. A person here reviews each document, and we record who approved it and when. Then a person signs the company off. Here is exactly what that covers.
- Crews. A crew uploads its certificate of insurance. A person here reviews it and its expiry date, and approves or declines it. Once it is approved and the crew is signed off, the crew is listed. When that expiry date passes, the crew comes off the list until a new certificate is approved and the crew is signed off again.
- What a crew isn't asked for. The certificate of insurance is the only document that decides whether a crew is listed. We ask crews for a W-9 so a contractor that awards them work has it on file, but it doesn't hold up a listing. We don't ask crews for a license; that's our requirement, not a statement about the law. References are optional.
- Contractors. A contractor provides its certificate of insurance and either a license, which a person here reviews, or its own statement that its state doesn't require one, which we record and don't check. A crew it awards work to sees that statement described exactly that way.
- What we don't check. We don't inspect work, test crews or judge anyone's skill. We don't judge whether a policy's limits suit your job. We don't run criminal background checks, and we don't check individual roofers: someone applying to an opening leaves an email or phone number that we pass to the crew without checking, and a roofer's profile is shown to crews only once its email address is confirmed. We're never on a job site.
“Verified” means the documents checked out on the day we looked at them. It is a floor to hire above, not a recommendation. More detail is on How it works.
How we're paid
- Crews pay nothing. No listing fee, no commission, no cut of what a contractor pays them. The one thing a crew can pay for is an optional $19 a month jobs-and-payments workspace, which changes nothing about how it appears to contractors.
- Contractors pay a membership: $300/month, or $3,240/year paid up front, for a twelve-month term either way. A contractor pays when it chooses a membership, the last step of signing up on the website, and we review the company after that. Paying opens nothing on its own: the crew directory opens once we've verified the company, and contacting crews or posting work needs that and an active membership.
- The refund. If we can't verify a contractor's company on its first review, we cancel the membership and refund every payment in full.
- No cut of the work. We take no commission and no per-hire fee. What a contractor and a crew agree is between them; we aren't a party to it.
